TDI Cavern Diver Course in Phuket, Thailand

This course is designed to develop the minimum skills and knowledge for cavern and overhead environment diving within the limits of light penetration; in addition, outlines specific hazards associated with cave diving. The cavern diver course in not intended to provide instruction for cave diving environments. The objective of this course is to train divers in the proper planning, procedures, techniques, and hazards of cavern diving.
We conduct TDI Cavern course in the cavern zones of Sra Keow and Song Hong caves, located in the provinces of Krabi and Nakhon Si Thammarat in the Southern Thailand. Another option available is Phi Phi Islands' sea caves.
You will perform the following in-water skills during TDI Cavern Diver Course

Properly deploy a guideline.

Properly follow a guideline with eyes open and closed, simulating loss of visibility.

Air share with a buddy with eyes open, following the guideline.

Air share with a buddy with eyes closed and use touch contact, following the guideline.
-
Remove and replace mask while in contact with guideline.
-
Demonstrate light/hand -signals and touch contact.

Explore cavern.
-
Referencing as back-up navigation.
-
Anti-silting techniques.
-
Simulate a primary light failure and deploy back up light and follow guideline.
-
If the diver uses a dual valve system, air/gas valve management.
Equipment for the TDI Cavern course
Although the Cavern Diver course allows the use of recreational equipment, we recommend taking the course in a standard technical configuration if you plan to continue with the Intro To Cave course.
The list of equipment required for each student:

Primary cylinder, volume appropriate for planned dive and student gas consumption. Students are permitted to use double cylinders but would be limited to the 1/6 air rule.

Regulator with pressure gauge and alternate air source; although not required, it is suggested one regulator be mounted on a hose approximately 2 Metres / 7 Feet in length.

Buoyancy compensator device (DIR style BCD preferred).

Exposure suit adequate for diving environment (3-5 mm wetsuit or a drysuit).

Mask and fins.

Line cutting device.
-
Safety reel with a minimum of 37 Metres/125 Feet of guideline.

One primary reel with length appropriate for intended dive.
-
Two battery powered lights, each with burn time suitable for the planned dive time.
-
Computer or watch (bottom timer) and depth gauge.

Slate or wet notes and pencil.
-
Submersible dive tables or backup dive computer (recommended).
-
Three directional line arrows.
Student Prerequisites - Cavern course

Minimum age 18, 15 with parental consent.

Provide proof of an Open Water Scuba Diver Certification.

Provide proof of a minimum of 25 dives.

Divers must have a Deep Diver specialty certification or be able to provide proof of experience in order to dive deeper than 18 Metres/60 Feet in this course.

To successfully complete the course, we recommend that you first take the TDI Intro To Tech course, which will introduce you to diving in a technical configuration.
