Now, let’s talk about why Phuket is the perfect place for this adventure:
-
Year-Round Warm Waters: Phuket boasts warm water temperatures throughout the year, making your learning experience comfortable and enjoyable.
-
Protected Bays: There are sheltered bays that keep you away from strong waves during training dives.
-
Diverse Underwater Landscapes: Phuket offers a variety of underwater environments—reefs, walls, and more—so you’ll get a well-rounded experience.
And here’s the icing on the cake: You won’t have to wrestle with a thick, restrictive wetsuit that leaves you feeling like a mummy. Instead, you can focus on mastering your skills without shivering in the cold.
During the OWD course, you’ll cover essential underwater skills necessary for real-world dives in open water — whether it’s the sea, rivers, or lakes. You’ll become familiar with diving equipment and learn about the physics and physiology of diving with scuba gear.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to plan and execute dives to depths of up to 18 meters (about 60 feet) alongside a buddy or a more experienced diver.
We truly believe that the OWD course is a pivotal step in your diving journey. Our instructors at ACDC Diving will put their heart and soul into shaping you into a true diver.
What does the PADI/SSI OWD course consist of?
The Open Water Diver course usually takes three days, however, for those who want to become really good divers we offer programs with more days and more dives.
The morning of the first day begins in the diving pool, where we practice 24 initial basic skills . As a rule, we study from 8:30 in the morning until 2-3 in the afternoon.
The second and third days we dive from a dive boat on the islands of Racha Noi and Racha Yai and do two or three dives per day. We recommend choosing a course option with six dives, which will allow you not only to master the required minimum skills, but also to dive for your own pleasure and get to know the underwater world of the two islands better.
At your request, we can spend the third day of classes diving on the Phi Phi Islands for a small additional fee.
During your studies, you will also have to read an eLearning manual, complete online tests and take a final exam in your SSI or PADI App. Don't worry, it's not difficult!
We offer flexible diving training schedules. You can study as convenient for you - we are always ready to adapt to your vacation schedule.
We also offer a budget version of the course with shore diving on Kata or Yanui beach - this option is perfect for those who are not ready to go to sea for the whole day, but still want to receive the coveted certificate.
We do everything to make diving courses in Phuket as comfortable as possible for our customers.
Who can attend Open Water Diver Course
Almost anyone who feels comfortable in the water and doesn’t have medical contraindications can take the Open Water Diver (OWD) course. It’s the entry point for many divers worldwide. To obtain this foundational diving certification, there’s a requirement: you should be able to swim 200 meters (about 656 feet) without using any aids or 300 meters (about 984 feet) while wearing a mask, fins, and snorkel. For children aged 10 to 14, there’s a special program called PADI Junior Open Water Diver.
If you find yourself with just two days to spare for diving education, consider the PADI/SSI Scuba Diver course. It’s a great way to get a taste of the underwater world and take a step closer to becoming a full-fledged diver!
What's next?
PADI or SSI Advanced Diver Course (AOWD): With your Open Water Diver certificate, you can enroll in the AOWD course. This program takes your skills to the next level and introduces you to various specialty dives. Imagine diving deeper, exploring shipwrecks, or mastering underwater navigation — AOWD opens up these possibilities.
For those who crave more adventure, the comprehensive program combines the Open Water Diver course with the Advanced Open Water Diver program. Over five days, you’ll complete 12 open-water dives at various Phuket dive sites, experiencing different conditions. And the best part? You’ll earn not one but two certifications: Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver (or Advanced Adventurer in SSI).
